Obituary for Frank L. Novak Frank L. Novak, 79, of Kingsford, MI, died today, Thursday, November 22, 2018 at the Dickinson County Healthcare System with his family at his side. He was born April 29, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Stanley and Anna (Mozgowiec) Novak. Frank grew up in Perronville, MI and graduated from Bark River-Harris High School in 1957.
He married the love of his life, Charlotte Gunville, on September 5, 1959 at the Holy Family Church in Flat Rock, MI. Frank worked for the Harnisfeger Plant in Escanaba for 25 years. He and Charlotte purchased the Holiday Motel in 1985 in Iron Mountain, and in 1988, they purchased the Roadhost Motel in Menominee, MI.
After the former Knife and Fork Restaurant in Iron Mountain burned down, they built the Holiday Kitchen restaurant in 1991. Frank and Charlotte also owned the Mata Brown Shop in Escanaba (1995-2001), the Morrison Shop in Escanaba (1998-2000), and owned and operated Perina’s clothing store in Iron Mountain from 2001-2013. Frank retired in 2013.
Frank bravely survived many surgeries over the past 5 years. He enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening and going to church. He loved animals, especially his Shih Tzu, Buddy.
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his home on the river and bonding with his grandson, Michael, over the years. Frank was a member of American Martyrs Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and Americans for Constitutional Enforcement (A.C.E.). Frank is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlotte; one daughter, Kim Novak of Green Bay, WI; one grandson, Michael Taylor of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers, Richard (Anna) Novak of Perronville, MI and George Novak also of Perronville, MI; and two sisters, Ann Marie Lewis of Escanaba, MI and Patricia Klugh of Hudson, FL.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Grace Novak in 1982; his parents, Stanley Novak Sr. and Anna (Mozgowiec) Novak; his brother, Stanley Novak Jr.; brothers in-law, Kenneth Lewis, Peter Heitz, Dan Klugh, and George Chaillier Jr.; father in-law, Louis Gunville; mother in-law, Cecile Gunville; and a nephew, Justin Novak. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the Kingsford Funeral Home in Kingsford. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at the American Martyrs Church in Kingsford.
Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Escanaba, MI.
