Franklin Dellano Paine, Sr. passed away quietly in his home in Grovetown on June 5, 2018. He was predeceased by his Grandmother, mother Joeletta, sisters Ruth and Joeletta, and survived by his beloved Aunt Juanita, sister Jeanette, children Franklin Jr (aka Dale), Frederick, Romereo, Andre, and Alexis, and grandchildren Donnell, Ronnie, Valencia, Trevon, Brendon, and Felicia. Franklin, or “Butch” as he was lovingly called by his family, was a proud US Army retiree and veteran of the Vietnam War.

He served as an Electronic Technician with tours all over the country, as well as overseas tours such as Korea and Germany. Although he was originally born and raised in Daytona Beach, FL, he retired from the Army at Ft. Gordon, GA, where he then began his Army Civil Service career.

He ultimately finished his career at the Army Cyber Battle Lab where he retired once again as the Facility Security Officer. In his spare time, he enjoyed attending church, tinkering with gadgets and new technology, seeing his grandchildren, spending time with his closest friends, and watching football. In his younger days, he was a talented athlete that played and coached softball, basketball, and football.

Franklin was known for his soulful singing voice and infectious smile. He was very charitable, taking pleasure in helping others get on their feet. A man of few words, those who knew him best knew the way to get him to talk was to mention food; he loved a good meal and enjoyed cooking.

He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be missed; everyone that knew him has a great “Butch” or “Mr. Frank” story. For those that wish to honor his life, the family asks for donations in his name to Wounded Warrior Project or the American Heart Association. A memorial service will be held at McNeill Funeral Home on Saturday, June 9th at 6pm.

He will be laid to rest with full military honors at a later time. “The soldier is the Army. No Army is better than its soldiers.

The soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country”. – Gen.
