Franklin Murray February 09, 1955 – January 01, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Franklin Murray was born on February 9, 1955 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Birdie Mae Murray. They later moved to New York City in July 1955 and Birdie married Roosevelt Glenn, Sr. Franklin was raised by the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Davis, Sr He received his wings on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Bellevue Hospital in New York, NY.

Franklin obtained his education from the New York City Public Schools. His childhood spiritual upbringing was received at the Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church in Manhattan, NY. He was always helpful with various church duties and present whenever his assistance was needed.

Franklin held numerous jobs throughout his years in New York City. His last employment was with the New York City Housing Authority, which he started in July 1993 as a Caretaker, and retired in February 2017. Franklin was a very outgoing and family-oriented person.

He loved to laugh, smile, dance, cook, and eat. He also loved to travel, especially Interstate 95 between New York and South Carolina. Franklin had an intense love for his children and shared a special bond with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Daddy Frankie”.

He was a “gentle, giant teddy bear” that was so irresistible and easily loved. Franklin was united in holy matrimony on July 22, 1989 to the love of his life and devoted wife of twenty-six (26) years, the late Ernestine (Tina) Loyd-Murray. Through this union they were blessed with children.

He leaves to cherish his loving and fond memories: his children, Tawania Loyd of Chester, NY, Shenique (Joe) Smith of Columbia, SC, Maurice Murray (fiancé, Nicole Watson) of Summerville, SC, Melvin Murray of Greenville, SC and Shaela Loyd of Cameron, SC; his mother, Birdie Glenn and stepfather, Roosevelt Glenn, Sr. of New York, NY; his mother-in-law, Essie Loyd (Sonny) Jenkins of Cameron, SC; his brothers, James Glenn of New York, NY, Roosevelt (Carol) Glenn, Jr. of Bronx, NY, Harry Glenn, who preceded him in death (Sharon Cobb-Glenn) of Brooklyn, NY, and Donald O. (Maxine) Glenn of Bronx, NY; sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Glover of Orangeburg, SC; brothers-in-law, Larry (Sheila) Loyd of Jamaica, NY, Timothy Loyd of Brooklyn, NY, Anthony Loyd, Vincent Loyd, and Jonathan (Alicia) Loyd of Bronx, NY; grandchildren, Tyrell Loyd, Kiree Loyd, Daquan Loyd, Zonnique Murray, Rhamel Murray, Gillen Smith, Madison Murray, Melaniegh Murray, Parker Joe Smith and Trystan Murray; special cousins raised as siblings, Alberta Davis Darby (Frank) of Bronx, NY and Nathaniel Davis, Jr. of New York, NY; and a host of other relatives to include aunts, uncles and cousins.
