Mr. George Mark Yanik, 63, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life early Tuesday morning in the care of Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke following an illness. Born April 24, 1955 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son to the late George T. and Rita (Kriso) Yanik. Educated in the city schools, he was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Mr. Yanik furthered his education by attaining a Bachelor’s degree from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre and later his Master’s degree in counseling from the University of Scranton. Until his retirement, George was employed as a home and school visitor with the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. Prior to that, he served as a case worker for the former Valley Crest Nursing Home, Plains Township.

He is remembered by those who knew and loved him for his gentle demeanor, enjoying the simple pleasures of this life. Although quiet in nature, he was one of Penn State’s biggest fans and loved following the Nittany Lions football program in his free time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Mr. Gary Yanik in 1976.

Left to cherish their brother’s memory are his siblings, Attorney Glenn G. Yanik and his wife Marianne of Dallas and Mrs. Mary Ellen Luchetti and her husband John of Mechanicsburg; Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial funeral services will be conducted on Saturday with a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Leo J. McKernan, personal family friend will serve as celebrant and homilist.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas. Relatives and friends may join the Yanik family for visitation and remembrances Saturday morning directly at church from 9:30 until the time of Mass. In lieu of floral tributes, the family would be honored if those contemplating a monetary donation in George’s memory, kindly give consideration to the Penn State Children’s Hospital, 600 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033.
