Gerald E. “Gerry” Rhoads, age 101, of Carlisle, died Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Green Ridge Village, Newville, PA. Gerry was born in Carlisle, PA on March 20, 1917 to the late Ritter and Mary Rhoads, and was the widower of Marian L. Hays Rhoads. Gerry retired from the payroll department of the former CH Masland and Sons, Lear Corporation after more than 40 years of service.

He was a former treasurer of the Opportunity Homes in Carlisle, and a former driver for George’s Flowers. He was… Read More » a graduate of Carlisle HS, Class of 1934, and the Carlisle Commercial College. He honorably served his country during WWII with the US Army.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Church, Carlisle, the Carlisle Kiwanis Club, the Carlisle American Legion Post, AARP, a driver for meals on wheels, volunteered at the Carlisle Hospital, a member of the Carlisle Swim Club and the Yellow Breeches Anglers Association. He is survived by: one daughter, Cindy E. Statler of Carlisle; one son, Gerry W. (wife Sharon) Rhoads of VA; two grandchildren, Toby L. (wife Susan) Statler, Michelle L. (husband Jesse) Bear; and two great-grandchildren, Blake and Casey Bear. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son in law, Terry L. Statler, and a brother, Harold Rhoads.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018, 1:00 pm at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road Carlisle, PA, with Pastor Robert W. Moore officiating. Interment will be held in the Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle, with military honors being provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 pm until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the UPMC-Transplant Cardio Thoracic Division, 200 Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213 or the Scleroderma Foundation, Delaware Valley Chapter, SFDV 385 Kings Highway N., Cherry Hill, NJ, 08034.
