Gerald Eugene Urbaniak, age 65, of McHenry, formerly of Cary, passed away, Friday, May 25, 2018, at JourneyCare of Woodstock, with his family by his side. He was born September 7, 1952 in Chicago, to Leonard and Ethel (Johnson) Urbaniak. On May 15, 1976, he Gerald married Peggy Lee Smith at St. Peter & Paul Church in Cary, IL.

Gerald was born in Chicago, moved to Cary as a child with his parents, and eventually relocated to McHenry in 2003. After high school, Gerald joined the US Army, and served three years in Germany during the Vietnam Era.

He then became a valued employee of Rand Terrace Siding Company. For over 30 years, Gerald was a clerk for the United States Postal Service of Fox River Grove, and retired in 2017. Gerald was a great American family man who enjoyed attending his daughter, Kristin’s Cross Country Meets and Cary Girl Softball games.

He also was active with his son, Samuel in Scouts and traveled extensively with him. Gerald was ferocious, and fought his illness bravely with the support of his devoted family. Gerald leaves behind, his loving wife of 42 years, Peggy; two children, Samuel Urbaniak of Arlington Heights, Kristin (Jeff) Giacinto of Woodstock; two grandsons, Thomas, August; two brothers, Leonard Urbaniak Jr. of Crystal Lake, Greg (Tammy) Urbaniak of McHenry; a sister, Linda (Larry) Hillesheim of Nolensville, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents. Friends and neighbors may gather for a memorial visitation from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The service will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
