Gerald R. Gibson September 24, 1928 ~ February 18, 2019 Gerald R. Gibson of Pleasant View passed away February 18, 2019, at the age of 90. He was born September, 24, 1928, in North Ogden to John William and Hazel Berrett Gibson. He was raised in North Ogden and graduated from Weber High School in 1946.

He attended Weber Junior College and transferred to the Utah Agricultural College (Utah State University) where he met his future wife Berneda Reeder of Brigham City. While in college, Mr. Gibson joined the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Aviation Cadet Training at Randolph Air Force Base on March 22, 1952, and was married March 25, 1952, in the Logan LDS Temple.

In 1961 he was awarded a degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He was elected to both Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and passed the Ohio State Professional Engineering Exam. He served for 28 years in the Air Force and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

His assignments included Georgia, Florida, Alaska, Louisiana, Ohio, Colorado, California, and Vietnam. He was a fighter pilot flying some of the Air Force’s first fighter jets and flew air rescue helicopters during the Vietnam War. Lt.

Col. Gibson was deputy commander of the Air Force unit building Titan booster rockets at Martin Marietta Corps. in Denver and was on the team that launched the first Air Force satellites.

In 1977, the Gibson’s retired to Pleasant View where he served in various positions in the LDS Church. Lt. Col.

Gibson’s grandfather was one of the founders of North Ogden and owned much of the land that is now Pleasant View. Lt. Col.

Gibson’s last years were spent in devoted care of his wife Berneda, who survives him. He is also survived by his son Michael Reeder Gibson (Linda Joy) of Mason City, Iowa; three grandchildren, Richard, Caroline and Thomas; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Roy.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Saturday, March 30th from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.
