Gerald L. “Speed” Eddington, 70, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at 2:40 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab Center, Taylor Springs, IL. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL at a later date. Rev. Randy Sands, Pastor of Free Methodist Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate with Eulogist Alan Eddington.

Cremation rites were accorded. Military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post 1306 and American Legion Post 425. Mr. Eddington was born on November 23, 1948 in Hillsboro, IL to the late Carl and Margaret (Hoehn) Eddington.

He was a 1966 graduate of Witt High School, Witt, IL and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years, working under President Regan on the MX Missile Site; worked at the Pentagon; and served eight years at SAK Headquarters in Germany. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Eddington lived in Witt, IL; Washington, D.C.; Florida; and Hillsboro, IL during his lifetime.

He married Mary L. Everley on September 23, 1988 in Fairfax, VA and she survives in Hillsboro, IL. He was a member of Elk Lodge; a member of Moose, Hillsboro, IL; a member of V.F.W. Post 1306, Hillsboro, IL; and a member of the American Legion Post 425, Irving, IL. Mr. Eddington is survived by two step-children, Michael (wife Kari) Lowe of Huntington Beach, CA and Michelle (husband Kelly) Ondrey of Hillsboro, IL; four step-grandchildren, Nic and Madi Ondrey of Hillsboro, IL and Riley and Ryann Lowe of Huntington Beach, CA; five brothers and sisters, Alan Eddington of Chicago, IL, Barb (husband Paul) Tomazzoli of Hillsboro, IL, Brad “Smoke” Eddington of Witt, IL, Staci (husband Tom) Eakins of Cobden, IL, and Jill Fox (fiance Robert Wingler) of Witt, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Montgomery County Cancer Association.
