Obituary of Geraldine Ryan Geraldine “Jerry” McCarthy Ryan Geraldine McCarthy Ryan, 90, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 31, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Jerry, a 64-year resident of West Nyack, New York was born in Bound Brook, New Jersey on March 23, 1928 to Jeremiah McCarthy and Catherine Grogan. She graduated from Douglass College in 1950.

She was married for 59 years to Thomas Francis Ryan. Jerry was known to her family and friends as a woman of faith, generosity and good humor. She loved life, enjoying many simple pleasures—cooking, painting, reading, gardening, sewing and finding ways to keep her children and grandchildren amused.

As a member of St Anthony’s parish, she served as an Eucharistic Minister and participated in several parish activities. She also served in a variety of community organizations including Meals on Wheels, The American Cancer Society, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. To her children and grandchildren, she will be remembered for her unconditional love and her stories filled with pearls of wisdom for navigating life’s challenges and celebrating life’s joys.

Jerry was preceded in death by her loving husband Tom, her brother Jerome and her sister Marilyn. She is survived by her five children, Kathleen Ryan Rodenbach (Antoine) of West Nyack, NY, Nancy Foote (Robert) of Hartland, VT, Peter Ryan of West Nyack, NY, Christine Ryan of West Roxbury, MA and Jenny Plassche (Douglas) of Clinton, NJ. Jerry was the proud grandmother of Emily Foote, Hannah Bensimhon (Adam), Nora Foote, Daniel, Anne and Jacques Rodenbach, Clare, Grace and Maeve Plassche and the great-grandmother of Theodore Bensimhon.

Visitation will be held on Monday February 4th from 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM at the Joseph W. Sorce F. H. 728 West Nyack Rd, West Nyack, NY 9845) 358-4433 www. sorcefuneralhome.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Shrine Church at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 5th.

Burial to immediately follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Church, Nanuet, NY.
