Gladys Merklin, 104, of Iowa Falls, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Scenic Manor. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, August 20, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Iowa Falls. Burial will be at the Jackson Township Cemetery, rural Owasa.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time on Monday at the church. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Gladys and her family. Gladys Marie Sanders Merklin was born on October 17, 1913 on a farm south of Iowa Falls, Iowa to Earnest and Clare (Hayden) Frisbie.

She graduated from Iowa Falls High School and attended Ellsworth Community College and UNI. In 1935 she was united in marriage to Lee Sanders at the home of her parents. To this union three children were born: Arthur Lee, Shirley Ina and Peggy Adell.

Lee passed away in 1975. Gladys later married James Merklin in 1987. Gladys was a teacher for twenty five years, beginning her career at Eagle City rural school.

She then taught at various schools throughout Hardin County. She was active in the First Christian Church, serving on numerous committees. Gladys was a member of the Edgewood board for many years.

She loved to play Bridge and enjoyed traveling. Gladys Sanders Merklin is survived by her son, Arthur (Karolyn) Sanders of Hartford, Wisconsin; her daughters, Shirley (Gene) Harms of Baraboo, Wisconsin and Peggy (Ike) Rooks of Eldora, Iowa; step-sons, Tom Merklin and Dan (Darlene) Merklin of Iowa Falls, Iowa; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and two brothers, Kenneth Frisbie and Marion Hayden.
