Obituary for Glover Oatman Jr. Glover “Junior” Oatman, Jr, age 90, of Williamsfield, OH, died Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, OH. He was born July 19, 1928, in Miles Heights, OH, a son of Glover Oatman, Sr. and Sally Mae (Watson) Oatman. A resident of Williamsfield for the past three years, Mr. Oatman was formerly of Middlefield, OH.
He was taught at a very early age to earn his living “by the sweat of the brow”. Starting out at his uncle’s grocery store as a stockboy and “whatever else I tell you to do” in the evenings after school and on Saturdays and Sundays for a hefty sum of 50 to 75 cents per week when business was good, then later for as much as a dollar. He worked as an ice and coal delivery man for his dad.
He then went into construction as a bricklayer, and in 1951 was blessed with a job as a Quality Control employee of B.F. Goodrich where he retired in 1992. Glover committed his life to God at an early age. He was baptized in 1954 at Canaan Baptist Church.
He attended the First United Methodist Church in Middlefield for many years where he served on the Stephens Ministry and enjoyed other volunteer work. Glover had a sweet tooth and loved honey buns and oatmeal cream pies; and he loved to watch the news on television. He married Charlotte A. Oatman on May 31, 1991, and she died on July 2, 2014.
He is also preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to mourn his daughter, GiGi Oatman of Youngstown, OH, daughter, Jasmine (James) Austin of Williamsfield,OH, son, Jeff (Youngsun)Stone of San Diego, CA, daughter, Michelle Oatman of Cleveland, OH, daughter, Yvonne Oatman of Cleveland, OH; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Louis Oatman and Melvin Oatman, and 2 sisters, Mary Lou Miller and Mildred Avery, all of Cleveland,OH. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 12:00 Noon at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect St.,Andover,OH.
