Obituary for Grady Alvin Bailey Grady Alvin Bailey 06/30/1921-04/20/2019 Grady Alvin Bailey, age 97, passed away on April 20, 2019 in Erwin. Born in Puncheon Fork, NC on June 30, 1921, he was the oldest of 12 children by the late Fred and Lottie English Bailey. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 78 years, Flossie Edwards Bailey; brothers: Farris, Riley, Junior; sister, Ruth Bailey; granddaughter, Alexandria Bailey.

As a young man he started working by cross cutting timber. During this time he met his wife, Flossie, and they were married on November 23, 1940. He then went to work in a naval shipyard, welding in a Newport News, VA during WWII.

To make a better life for his family he moved to Michigan and started working at General Motors. They kept their home in Flag Pond and traveled back and forth for the 30 years he worked there until he retired in 1983. After retirement he came back to his home in Flag Pond, TN for good and returned to his farming roots.

There he and his wife raised bountiful gardens that supplied the family with years of canned goods. Grady enjoyed fishing (especially eating them), hunting, camping, storytelling, and spending time with his family. He will live on in our hearts forever through the many stories, love, and memories that we have to pass on to generations to come.

Grady is survived by sons: Bob Fender, Dorsey, wife Blanche Bailey and Pascal, wife Karen Bailey; siblings: JB Wallen, Paul, wife Carol Ann Bailey, Joe, wife Martha Bailey, Chloia, husband, Joe Cherry, Ted Bailey, Zach, wife Jane Bailey, Bennie, wife Verna Mae Bailey; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Jerry Keasling will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service.
