Guy Earle Matthews, 82 of Springfield, OR passed away on September 8, 2018. He was born on December 25, 1935 in Boise, ID to parents Guy Arlon and Willa L. (Meyer) Matthews. Guy graduated from Boise High School and attended Boise Junior College and Oregon State University.

He married Alice M. Chapman on June 20, 1959 in Cottage Grove, OR. Guy was a civil engineer who worked on federal highways and for Bonneville Power. The family lived in Clark County, WA from 1963 – 2018.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church, was an area governor for Toast Masters and president of the Home Owners Association. Guy built a hydroponic greenhouse where he grew tomatoes; he played tennis and enjoyed camping, backpacking and painting. Guy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Alice Matthews, Eugene, OR; daughter Carla Barnes, Cottage Grove, OR; son, Guy A. Matthews, Vancouver, WA; daughter, Sonya Matthews, Depot Bay, OR; 3 grandchildren, 1- step grandchild and 2 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings; Ted Arlon Matthews, Betty Lou Tate, Delores Keene and Sandra Morgan. A Funeral and Reception will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel, 123 S. 7th St., Cottage Grove, OR. A Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM at Smith Lund Mills.

Interment will follow funeral at Fir Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to World Vision at worldvision.org. Arrangements in the care of Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel.
