Obituary for Harlen E. Bailey Harlen E. Bailey, age 78, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. A native of Washington County, Harlen is a son of the late Marcus and Grace Lee (Lloyd) Bailey He of the Baptist faith and formerly was employed by National Casket Company. After the casket company closed, Harlen began doing auto body work.

He was a good, loving and caring man, father and grandfather, who enjoyed working with vehicles, lawnmowers and other mechanics and loved spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Harlen is preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Junior Bailey, and one sister, Gladys (Bailey) Wilson. Harlen E. Bailey has left behind to cherish his memory: Sons: Douglas Bailey and wife, Kelly, of Unicoi, Tim Bailey and wife, Teresa, of Erwin, Chad Bailey; of Erwin; Brothers: Ebb Bailey and wife, Betty, of Washington County, Ted Bailey, of Erwin, Verline Bailey and wife, Faye, of Erwin, James Bailey and wife, Priscilla, of Erwin; Sisters: Blanche Blankenship, of Erwin, Dollie Gilbert, of Erwin; Grandchildren: Lindsay Bailey, of Erwin, Sage Bailey, of Unicoi; Several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Roger Laws and Charlie Byrd for visiting with him during his time of illness. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Harlen E. Bailey in a funeral service to be held at 8:00 PM on Friday, April 20, 2018 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Pastor Charlie Byrd and Reverend Roger Laws will officiate.

A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 6:00 PM and will continue until the hour of service. A committal service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:00 AM to go in procession.

Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Niswonger’s Children’s Hospital, 400 N State of Franklin Road, Johnson City, TN 37604. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed at www.
