“Gone Fishing” Harold Loyd Matthews, 65, of North Vernon passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus. Born February 14, 1953, in Seymour, Mr. Matthews was the son of Carl and Zola (Campbell) Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a 1971 graduate of Jennings County High School and worked as a forklift driver for Cosco in Columbus for 19 years before retiring in 1991.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, mushroom hunting, and going to the casino. Survivors include daughter, Carla Owens of North Vernon; step-son, Herby (Kathy) Coulter of North Vernon; step-daughters, Bobbie (Mike) Dunn of Commiskey, Sheila Hanson of Noblesville, Jennie Coulter of North Vernon and Debbie Coulter of Madison; brothers, Edrol Matthews and Tom (Michelle) Matthews both of North Vernon and Gary (Robin) Matthews of Scottsburg; sisters, Donna Matthews and Diane Stiggens both of Commiskey and Beverly (Scott) Underwood of Bedford; grandchildren, Renee (Donny) Loos of North Vernon, Mackenzie Brown and Katlynn Owens both of Columbus; fifteen step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Luka Loos, Liam Loos and Kohan Loos all of North Vernon and several step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with the family’s wishes cremation is planned.
