Harriett E. (Metcalfe) Schaffstein Stratman, 100, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Evansville Protestant Home. She was born October 28, 1918 to the late Harry and Beatrice (Mills) Metcalfe. Harriet worked in the ammunitions planet at Chrysler during World War II.

She held several jobs following the war before assisting Dr. Robert Miley. She was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she received the Bruté Society honor. She was also a member of the Saint Joseph and Turner’s Auxiliaries.

She and her second husband, Leo, enjoyed traveling and were very active in the Old-Time Auto Club and the Model A Ford Club. Harriett was an avid bridge and clabber card player and was an accomplished seamstress. Harriett is survived by nieces and nephew, Betty Ann Sendelweck, Tom Miller, Bea Wiesner, Patty Montgomery, John (Susan) McFetridge, David (Donna) McFetridge, Bettye M. (David) Wright, Robert (Carole) Schaffstein, Richard (Carolyn) Bohm, Kathleen (Jerry) Seng, Bud (Joan) Hufnagel, Barbara (Bill) Pfeiffer and Jim Hufnagel; step nieces and nephews, Brenda Ashley, Dixie Scales, Lily Helfrich and Kelly Diefenbach; numerous great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, James Nicholas Schaffstein in 1969 and her second husband, Leo F. Stratman in 2017; sisters, Francis Miller, Dorothy Meyer Finney and Mary Alice DeVillez. Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. , Evansville.

Funeral services will begin at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday, March 11, 2019, at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Cemetery, Evansville.
