Obituary for Harrison Dale Garrett Harrison Dale Garrett, 90 of York, PA, died at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home on January 5, 2019. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. (Black) Garrett. Born January 13, 1928 in Nashville, York County, PA, he was the son of the late Sterling L.J. and Lillie Alverta (Gentzler) Garrett.

Harrison was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from BAE Systems and was a butcher for 32 years. He attended West York High School and was a member of the New Oxford Social Club and the West York Ambulance Club.

Harrison is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Heist of York, PA and Melissa Garrett and her wife, Jackie Reed of York, PA; three grandchildren, Michael Heist and his wife, Kim, Julee Bricker and her husband, Bryan and Ryan Heist and his wife, Melissa; seven great grandchildren, Branson, Brielle, Jenna, Megan, Jacob, Jordan and Travis; two step sons, Terry Harlacker and his wife, Marsha and Rick Harlacker and his wife, Regina; three step grandchildren, Jennifer Naylor and her husband, Jason, Emily Minium and her husband, Jesse and Samantha Harlacker; four step great grandchildren, Austin, Abigail, Madison and Elijah; and four sisters, Flurene Queen, Beverly Baughman, Doris Paradies and Annie Delp. In addition to his wife and parents, Harrison was preceded in death by three brothers, George “Curt”, Donald and David; two sisters, Margaret Klinedinst and Ethel Rishel and his favorite son-in-law, Michael Heist, Sr. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the West York Church of the Brethren, 5101 Darlington Road, York, PA 17408 with Pastor Gregory L. Jones officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.

A private burial for the family will be held in St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery in York New Salem, PA. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in memory of Harrison D. Garrett to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by the Etzweiler-Koller Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2000 W. Market St. York, PA 17404.
