Obituary for Helen Bee Brown Helen Bee Brown, 91, of Louisville, peacefully went home to be with Jesus Monday July 9th 2018. Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Thomas “Pope” Brown, who we know was completely overjoyed to be reunited with the love of his life. Helen was born March 11, 1927 to her loving parents Howard and Mary Jane Downey.

The second youngest of 4 girls, Helen grew up in Portland in a quaint little home with her parents, sisters, and Granny Elizabeth. As a young teen Helen worked at McKesson and Robbins downtown, but was a JCPS retiree, the majority of her career was spent at Portland Elementary School serving in the kitchen where the kids called her “Jingle Bells”. Grandma Birdie, as she was called, was the cornerstone of an incredibly big, beautiful family.

She is survived by her children Hardy (Ruby), Mitch (Becky), and Natalie (Bob). She was the proud Granny to 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Helen enjoyed playing bingo and singing karaoke with her niece and best friend Betty Payton at the American Legion Post #220.

She was a loving, kindhearted, beautiful woman who would light up a room! Our world will definitely not be the same without her but we are confident in the promise of Heaven and can’t wait to see her again! Her celebration of life will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 14, 2018 at Ratterman Keenan Southwest Chapels, 4832 Cane Run Road, with entombment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 – 8 p.m. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Helen Bee Brown please visit our Sympathy Store.
