Helen Doll, 94, New Salem, ND, passed away March 4, 2019 at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, ND, with Rev. John Guthrie as celebrant.

Burial will be at St. Pius Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem and continuing from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM at St. Pius Catholic Church. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Helen was born July 21, 1924 in the St. Vincent area to Liberatus and Margaret (Steckler) Zander. She attended rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Mandan High School. Helen went on to teach at St. Vincent school.

On January 21, 1946 she married Joseph D. Doll at St. Vincent Church. The couple made their home Northwest of Sweet Briar Dam. Together Helen and Joe farmed and ranched in the New Salem area for many years.

She was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church and the Homemaker’s Club. She enjoyed her bowling league with her teammates and making crafts including sewing, crocheting and making jewelry. She was known to have one of the best gardens around.

She canned much of her produce from that garden. Helen was an excellent cook. Her and Joe loved traveling with their special friends Delbert and Irene Krumwedie.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Bonita (James) Pazdernik, New Salem; sons, Ronald (June), Kevin (Mary), Charles (Pam), Harlan (Jodie) David (Donna) all of New Salem, Douglas (Deb), Mandan; 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sons in-law, Darrell Kuhn and Keith Pagel; sisters, Monica Yantzer, Mary Knoll, both of Bismarck, Kathleen (John) Brilz, San Pablo CA; brother, James, Bismarck; and a sister in-law, Beatrice Zander, Mandan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph D.; daughters, Doreen Kuhn and Jolene Pagel; grandson, Joshua Kuhn; great-great-grandson, Emerson Schlag; brothers, Liberatus “Lib” (Mary), Richard, Theodore “Ted”; and brothers in law, Tony Yantzer and Mike Knoll.
