Helen’s Obituary Obituary Helen G. Jelke, 90 Helen G. Jelke, 90, of Blackfoot, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Bingham Memorial Hospital. Helen was born on August 16, 1928 in Pocatello, Idaho to George Utah Christensen and Cassie Catherine Taylor Christensen. She was raised in Tyhee and attended schools there.

She graduated from Pocatello High School. She continued her education at Idaho State University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business and later in Education. She met a handsome football player from Chicago named Jack Jelke and married him on August 2, 1952 in Pocatello.

After their marriage, they moved to Blackfoot. Helen was a 5th grade teacher. She taught at Irving Elementary for 8 years and was remembered fondly by her students for many years after.

She served in many community positions. She held offices in the Blackfoot Jayceettes including president. She also served as the president of a local service sorority.

She participated in fundraising for the March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society. She was a Christian with a deep love for her Savior and served in many positions at church. She compiled a natural healing book.

She enjoyed current affairs, traveling, camping, finding ghost towns, studying history, and loved animals of all types. Helen is survived by her children: Tim Jelke of Boise, Mike (Rose) Jelke of Texas and Janis Jelke of Blackfoot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; and her brother Floyd Christensen.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family with meet with friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Bingham County Humane Society.
