Helen Jackimowicz, 82 Longtime Springvale Township resident, Helen Jackimowicz passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the age of 82. Helen was born in Petoskey on July 13, 1936 to Marcelin and Mayme (Miles) Jackimowicz. She grew up in Petoskey and was a graduate of St. Francis Catholic High School, Class of 1954.
Following graduation Helen moved to the Detroit area where she worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company. She remained with Michigan Bell for four decades, working in Detroit, Traverse City and Petoskey, eventually retiring in 1995. Helen is survived by her three brothers and their wives, Jim (Donna) Jackimowicz of Marquette, John (Mary Ann) Jackimowicz of Alanson and Paul (Janet) Jackimowicz of Petoskey.
Also surviving Helen are nine nieces and nephews, Geri Lynn Wolf, Keith Jackimowicz, Julie Jackimowicz, Ron Jackimowicz, Gary Jackimowicz, Don Jackimowicz, Rich Jackimowicz, Rose Wodek, and Marty Jackimowicz, as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews. Helen’s bonds with her brothers, sisters and nieces and nephews were very close. Her family will forever remember her caring and selfless nature.
Whenever anyone needed help, Helen was more often then not, the first face they would see. Her close friends will remember her love of bowling and softball and her fondness for deer hunting and fishing. Over the last decade Helen has struggled with dementia, causing her to depend on others for much of her care.
On Helen’s behalf, her family thanks all of those responsible for her daily care, and for the many years of love and kindness they gave so faithfully. A special thanks also to the staff of McLaren Hospice. Helen’s life will be remembered and celebrated during a Funeral Mass that is planned for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
The service will be led by Fr. Dennis Stilwell. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the church gathering space on Thursday morning.
