Nellie “Jeanette” Thompson, 94 of Petoskey, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2018. Jeanette was born on October 13, 1924 in Petoskey, the daughter of Herbert and Rena (Wellman) Lombard and grew up in Petoskey, and attended the Greenwood Country School. On December 11, 1953, Jeanette married Robert E. Thompson in Petoskey and together they raised two daughters until his he tragic death on August 20, 1963.

Jeanette worked as a Cook for Petoskey Public Schools, cooking at one time or another at every school in the system. She retired in 1989. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Missionary Church and loved singing and reading various types of novels, especially mystery.

She also enjoyed crocheting and needlework. Jeanette was a very independent woman who loved her family deeply and took great joy in the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by 2 daughters, Janice Thompson of Indian River and Lois (Terry) Weeter of Alanson; 2 grandchildren, Danielle Weeter and Christopher Weeter; great grandson, Calob Weeter and by many nieces and great nieces and nephews.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and by 2 siblings, Agnes and Raymond Lombard. A graveside service celebrating Jeanette’s life, will take place at Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, November 5th at 1pm. Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.
