Gregg A. Kwiatkowski, age 57 of Cheboygan passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey. He was born December 6, 1961 in Detroit, the son of Walter and Carolyn (Gawel) Kwiatkowski. On October 27, 1984 in Warren, Gregg married “the girl next door”, his lifelong love, Patti Litzner.
In 1995, he and Patti moved to Cheboygan from Sterling Heights and opened Northern Sound and Security which he ran for the past 23 years. As the unofficial mayor of Cheboygan, Gregg left a lasting mark on the community by creating Music at the Mouth. You could find Gregg on his pontoon every Saturday parked front row ready to show anyone a good time on Mullett Lake.
He was also an avid hockey player and where skill lacked, he was the social chairman of every locker room. He played in the Thursday night Men’s league at the Cheboygan Golf and Country Club where he made lasting memories with his friends and family. During the winter months Gregg could be found riding his snowmobile or bowling with his family and friends.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also a past President of the Cheboygan Chamber of Commerce. His favorite title of all was being Grandpa to his little buddy Theo. Survivors include his wife, Patti, one daughter, Jacie (Everett) Leonard and their son Theo, his “son” Adam (Jocelyn) Cripps and their son Hayden, all of Cheboygan, his parents of Shelby Twp.
, two brothers, Paul of Ray Twp. , MI and Douglas (Kristen) of Washington Twp. , MI, his sister, Lynn (Shawn) Davis of Rochester, mother-in-law, Audrey Litzner of Cheboygan, sister-in-law, Jennifer (Kevin) Keenan of Onaway, nieces and nephews, Jeremy (Tina), Jamie (Jason), Paul Jr. (Melissa), Danielle, Mitchell, Samantha, Dean, Megan, Nathan, Brendan and Amorea and many cousins, aunts, uncles and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Norman Litzner, Brother-in-law, Edward Litzner, sister-in-law, Debra Mesler and both of his maternal grandparents, John and Monica Gawel and his paternal grandparents, Stanley and Helen Kwiatkowski. Visitation will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Friday, December 28 from 2:00 – 8:00 pm with prayers and memories beginning at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, December 29 at 11:00 am with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the mass.
The Reverend Duane Wachowiak will officiate and burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to either Strength for Cripps, C/O Adam Cripps at Straits Area Federal Credit Union or the Straits Area Men’s Hockey Association for the creation of a children’s gear exchange.
