David E. Mathews, 72, passed December 22, 2018 following a short illness. Dave was born January 24, 1946 in Petoskey to Edwin and Mary Mathews. He was a Petoskey High School graduate and lifelong resident of Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

Dave was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was known for his gentle style, kind heart, and willingness to help others. He was a skilled auto body repair man and master mechanic.

He enjoyed building cars, trucks, and motorcycles, showcasing his mechanical ingenuity. He also found great joy in riding his Harley and tending his vegetable garden. David is survived by his sister, Barbara Batterbee, his daughters; Mary Mathews-Franden, Jana Boothroyd, Jill Mathews and Kara Mathews.

He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren, nephews, nieces and many dear friends. A memorial service is planned 11:00 Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Stutsmanville Chapel on State Road in Harbor Springs.
