Helen Jean (Losh) Headbird, “Shaa-goo-da-shi-gai-equay”, 84 years young, of Cass Lake/Mission, Minnesota passed away at her home on Sunday, May 27, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born in Onigum, MN on May 18, 1934 to Emma Losh and Albert Claypool. Helen lived a long and meaningful life.

She had 10 children of her own besides the many other children that were raised by her. She loved to read, cook and make flowers from crepe paper every year. Helen really enjoyed visiting with her family, playing bingo and going to the casino.

She is deeply loved by all her family and friends. Family that she joins again are her parents; Emma and Albert, sons; Randolph “Randy” Sr., Emmanuel Jr., Gary and Darryl Headbird, Sr., and Bert Gale-Headbird, brothers; John Losh and Jim Beaulieu, sisters; Rita Buck and Dorothy Losh, granddaughters; Amanda Headbird and Endonnis Baird, grandsons; Brenton and Ronnie Headbird and several other relatives. She leaves behind her son; Thomas Headbird of Cass Lake, daughters; Wanda (Bill) Headbird-Croaker, Tina (Cowboy Wind) Headbird, Susan Headbird and Nancy (Barney) Kingbird all of Cass Lake, 38 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.

A wake for Helen will begin at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 29th and continue until her 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Thursday, May 31st, all being held at the Mission Community Center in Mission, MN. Father George Ross will officiate. Pallbearers for Helen will be William Croaker, Jr., Michael Headbird, Timothy Adams, Emmanuel Headbird III, Jordan Huesers, Frank Wind, John Schneider, Jr. and Brad Croaker.

Alternate pallbearers are Randy Headbird, Jr., Chavez Wind, Darryl Headbird, Jr., and Christopher “Tipper” Headbird. Her honorary pallbearers are all her grandchildren. Interment will be in the Prince of Peace Cemetery at Mission following her funeral services on Friday.
