STRUTHERS – A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, at St. John The Baptist Church in Campbell celebrated by Monsignor Peter Polando for Helen K. Garchar, 94, of Struthers who passed away at the emergency room of St. Elizabeth Hospital Main Campus on Sunday morning. Mrs. Garchar was born Oct. 18,1923 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, a daughter of George A. and Mary Gavalinski Ziobert and came to the area as a child.

Mrs. Garchar was employed by the Struthers Board of Education as a baker and retired in 1982, was a homemaker, and was known for her pierogis, haluski and cherry squares which she shared with family and friends. Mrs. Garchar was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Campbell, Ohio She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Katherine Garchar of Struthers; Joseph P. Garchar, Jr of Struthers and Stephen T. (Sandy) Garchar all of Youngstown; Mrs. Garchar was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Garchar, Sr. whom she married, January 30, 1945, and who passed away February 5, 2002; sisters, Stella Stefanic and Eva Coyne; brothers, George, Andy, Frank, Felix, Adam, John and Edward Ziobert . The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the McCauley Funeral Home and from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Church.
