Obituary for Helen Maria Ioannou Helen Maria Ioannou, age 33, passed away far too soon on Monday, October 22nd 2018 after an almost 7-month fight against breast cancer. She was a passionate, strong, independent woman, and a devoted and loving mother to her 2-year old son Paul. Helen, or Eleni in Greek, brought light into the lives of everyone who knew her, and she will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her husband Peter Andruskiewicz, son Paul, mother and father Ioanna and Photios Ioannou, and siblings Irene, George and Constantine. Helen lived her life in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with numerous visits to Cyprus to visit relatives. She loved to travel, make jewelry & metalsmith, participate in triathlons (including during chemo treatment!
), teach the Greek language, spend time with friends, and teach, care, and play with her son and three dogs. Throughout life, she approached everything with joy and courage, and lived to the fullest. Helen touched the lives of a remarkable number of people and those who knew her used these words to describe her: unique, amazing, beautiful, empowering, great, wonderful, joyful, bouncy, friendly, happy, gracious, positive, shining, outgoing, vivacious, remarkable, brilliant, inspiring, creative, loving mother, dedicated, beautiful and doting wife, true friend, sweet, joyful, spunky, full of charisma, energy and zeal for life, feisty, forever smiling, faithful, grateful, fighter, full of empathy, giving, sharing, true, a legacy for Paul, most incredible mother, loving wife, energetic sister and daughter, and most devoted friend a great tutor, mentor, always such a vital presence, made such an incredible impact on so many lives.
