Helen Mary Goebel Passed away January 22, 2019 in Dubuque, Iowa. Helen was born on February 6, 1922, in Lemont, Illinois; daughter of William and Caroline (nee Schroeder) Leffler. Helen met the love of her life, Paul Goebel, from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, at the Lemont bank where she worked as a teller.

Paul was an officer in the Army, and he met Helen when stationed nearby. They married on September 9, 1942 before he left for World War II. When Paul returned from the war, they moved to Joliet, Illinois.

Helen and Paul had one daughter, Patricia, who preceded them in death in 1993. Paul passed away in 2000. Helen remained in Joliet until 2016 when she moved to Dubuque, Iowa to live near her granddaughter and her husband, Helen is survived by her granddaughter Kelly (Scott) McDonnell, her son-in-law Thomas Hennebry, her sisters-in-law Marianne Leffler and Marlene Davis and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws Joseph and Anna (nee Wall) Goebel, sisters Dorothy (Arthur) Anderson and Erna (Robert) Kauk; brothers Marvin Leffler, Norman (Blanche) Leffler, William (Billie June) Leffler, Richard Leffler and Herbert Leffler; brothers-in-law Walter (Betty) Goebel and Leo Goebel and sister-in-law Elizabeth Goebel. Helen retired in 1978 from the National Bank of Joliet after 25 years of service. She was a proud member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Joliet.

Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home in Joliet. Funeral services at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 29 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Joliet where friends and family may also call from 10:00 until time of services. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.

Helen’s family would like to thank the excellent staff at Luther Manor for taking wonderful care of her during the past seven months. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
