Tande, 96, of Belvidere, IL died Friday, January 18, 2019 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, IL. She was born June 25, 1922, in Osseo, WI. She was the daughter of Betsy (Kattestad) and Louis Thompson.

She married Allen J. Tande on January 3, 1944 in Whitehall, WI. They moved to Genoa in 1956. Helen worked at Leich Electric (Automatic Electric) in Genoa, from 1965-1978.

She then worked at NIU in the janitorial department until she retired in 1988. She and Al enjoyed traveling throughout the US in their various campers and motor homes. They also enjoyed camping with their many friends in the Good Sam’s Camping Club, and snowmobiling with the Genoa Trail Blazers, snowmobiling club.

Helen was very quick witted, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed telling jokes to make her friends and family laugh – which they did. She was preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, five brothers, Laverne, Earl (Marjorie), Leonard (Mary), Howard (Sally) Thompson, and Bruce (Luetta) Christian, and one sister Eshter Thompson, and her beloved dogs, Muffin and Mitzi.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Elaine) Tande, and Deb (Joel) Plapp, granddaughters, Annette (Ron) Riemer, Yoshe (Eric) Pohlman, and Joy (Jake) Medina, great grandchildren, Antonio Medina, Allison, Kailey and Traci Riemer, Eric, Joseph, Victoria, and Alexander Pohlman, and Grace Calhoun, one brother, Floyd (Lorraine) Christianson, two sisters, Lorraine (Vern) Potter, and June (Milton) Holstien or Eau Claire, WI, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place in Genoa, IL at Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St. on Monday, January 28th from 4:00-7:00 PM. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 29th at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Osseo, WI at 1:00 PM.

There will be a brief sermon in the chapel prior to burial at the Osseo Cemetery. Lunch will be served there after at the church. Memorials can be made for the family in c/o the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W Main st.
