Obituary for Mr. Henry Lee Warren Henry Lee Warren 93, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, January 6, 2019. He was born and raised in Cartersville, Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 during WWII.

In 2012 he was awarded a Congressional Gold medal of honor from President Barack Obama recognizing the Montford Point Marines for their exceptional service and achievements. As the first African-American Marines, the nearly 20,000 recruits trained at Camp Montford Point in North Carolina between 1942 and 1949. They overcame discrimination and segregation to perform distinguished military service for the country during World War II and subsequent conflicts.

He would often reminisce how proud he was to be a Marine. “Semper Fi” After serving his tour Henry moved to the shore area where he worked for the Monmouth Processing Company before retiring. Henry was best known in town as “Deacon Warren” where he was an active member of the Macedonia Baptist Church Neptune, NJ for many years where he served as Chairman of Deacon Board and other committees that lead to positive changes in the church.

Deacon Warren is remembered as a kind man who always offered comforting words of wisdom. Henry was pre-deceased by his parents Junious and Victoria Warren, two wives Gloria and Amy, brothers Aaron, Webster, Charles, Arthur and sister Helen. He is survived by his brother Raymond Warren, two sisters, Phyllis Landis and Janie Jackson and wife Thelma Warren.

Children from his first union Elaine (Alton) Latimore of Asbury Park, NJ, Mark (Contrina) Warren of Neptune, NJ, Deborah (Robert) Harris of Neptune, NJ, and Paul Warren of Hawthorne, Ca. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grands and extended family. Home Going Service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at The Campus at Macedonia located at 1924 Heck Ave, Neptune, NJ 07753.

The viewing will be at 9:00am, followed by the eulogy at 10:00am. Entombment will be at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls, New Jersey. To send a memorial gift to the family of Mr. Henry Lee Warren please visit our Sympathy Store.
