Obituary for Herbert R. Carlson Herbert R. Carlson, 97, of Berlin, husband of Shirley (Wollman) Carlson for the past 71 years, passed away Thursday (November 1, 2018) at the Hospital of Central CT. Born in New Britain, he was a former Hartford resident, moving to Berlin in 1954. Herb was a graduate of Hartford High School and was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He worked in delivery and refrigeration for Sealtest Ice Cream in New Britain and Hartford for 33 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Britain; and was a charter member of VFW Post 10732 in Berlin. Besides his wife Shirley, he leaves a son, Robert R. Carlson and his wife Jodi of Middletown; three grandchildren, Kristina Carlson and her fiancé Jason Silverman of Middletown; Elizabeth Carlson of Meriden; and Erik Carlson also of Meriden.

Herb was predeceased by his son, Thomas R. Carlson and his wife Susan Carlson. He was also predeceased by his sister Esther Howe of New Britain. Funeral services are Tuesday 11 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 147 West Main Street, New Britain.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW Post 10732, 152 Massirio Drive, Berlin, CT 06037.
