Herschel A. Borchelt, 95, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 2:25 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Green Hills Center, West Liberty. Herschel A. Borchelt passed away at the age of 95 on May 2, 2018 at Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on June 30, 2018 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 300 N. Huntersville Road, Batesville, IN.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to St. John’s United Church of Christ. Herschel was born August 3, 1922 in Batesville, Indiana to Edwin Borchelt and Flora Narwold Borchelt.

He married Leora Howard in Batesville on August 29,1942 and they shared over 59 wonderful years together. After serving as an officer during WWII, he joined RR Donnelley and Sons in Crawfordsville, Indiana. In 1958, he moved to Willard, Ohio with the company and served in various managerial positions before retiring after 38 years.

Herschel was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks. As a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, he served on the administrative board and as finance chairman. He was an avid tennis player, fisherman, and golfer.

For many years, he served on the finance committee for the Willard Country Club. He loved and was loved by his family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He is survived by his brother, Paul Borchelt of Batesville, sister in law Vyona Borchelt of Batesville, and sister in law, Thelma Borchelt of Bally, Pennsylvania.

He leaves two sons, David Borchelt and wife Peggy of Greensboro, Georgia and Thomas Borchelt and wife Wendy of Zanesfield, Ohio; his five grandchildren Scott Borchelt, Julie Borchelt Sorrick, Laura Borchelt Rivera, Josh Barrett, and Lori Barrett Mathews. The family also includes 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leora Borchelt, and brother John Borchelt.

He served as an exceptional mentor for the family and will be sorely missed. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine . TD Donations may be made to: St. John’s United Church of Christ 300 N. Huntersville Rd.
