Obituary for Hertha Ohl Hertha Ohl, 92, went to meet the Lord on May 8, 2018, at her home in Evansville, IN. Hertha was born Tamara Litwin in Kiev, Ukraine in 1925 to Paul and Lydia Litwin. At the age of six her father was liquidated by Stalin’s secret police.

Hertha and her mother escaped to Uman, Ukraine, where they assumed new identities. During WWII she survived the Nazi occupation of Ukraine only to flee the returning Red Army by following the retreating German forces through Poland and into Germany. She lived and worked as an interpreter in post-war West Germany until 1956, when she immigrated to the United States.

Hertha lived in California where she operated the Guardhouse bar near Travis AFB until 1963, when she moved to Evansville, IN. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1964, a very proud moment in her life. While raising her family, she was an active public speaker in local churches, speaking out about her experiences in Soviet occupied Ukraine.

She enjoyed her work as a cardiology technician at St. Mary’s Hospital for 24 years, retiring in 1993. Hertha was a woman of strong spiritual convictions and opinions. She was a long time member of the Church of God of Prophecy, and a charitable giver to the Little Sisters of the Poor and the Messianic Jewish Community.

She was responsible for the guidance of several miracles in her lifetime. She loved flowers and the beauty of God’s creation. Hertha loved people and made many dear friends in her 92 years.

She was a bold and outspoken warrior and survivor. She will be missed. Hertha was the beloved mother of Anton Gleim (Rose), Heidi Krause (Paul), and David Miller (Karolyn); dear grandmother of Melissa, Philip, Charlie, Ashley, Andre, and Arianna; and dear great-grandmother of Ethan, Kiara, Brayden, Juliet, Amyra, Remi, Brodie, and Ruby.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Deaconess Midtown and Asera Care Hospice for their care and support during her final days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm Friday, May 11, 2018, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 South Hebron Ave, Evansville, IN. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev.

William Gaddis officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Church of God of Prophecy, 2209 South Green River Road, Evansville, IN 47715.
