Mr. Thomas Edward “Tom Cat” Burris, age 69 of Franklin, KY, entered into rest Friday, May 4, 2018 at 4:44 PM at Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville, TN Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 8, 2018 with burial to follow in the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Gallatin, TN with military honors by the Simpson County Honor Guard. Mr. Burris was born December 4, 1948 in Gallatin, TN. to the late Miller Woodson “Judge” Burris and the late Mae Frances Lyles Burris.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Richard Oscar and John David Burris. He is survived by his wife Liz Burris, 2 daughters Tammy Rana Burris Russell (Stuart) and Amy Elizabeth Burris both of Franklin, KY, 2 grandchildren Joshua Thomas (J.T.) Burris and John David Russell, and an aunt Maxine Trammell and several cousins. Mr. Burris was a Baptist and a member of the American Legion Post #62 and Harry Reed VFW Post #5706 where he held the office of Sargent at Arms for both clubs.

He was also a member of the Military Order Of Cooties Pup Tent 9 where he held the office of finance, member of the Am Vets #110 and Vietnam Veterans. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday, May 7, 2018 and from 6:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at Gilbert Funeral Home. Everyone is invited to attend the Cootie’s Rites to be held at 7:00 PM Monday.
