Obituary for Horace G. Cowfer Jr. Print Horace Cowfer Jr., 83, of Pleasant Valley Blvd. , Tyrone died February 9, 2019 at UPMC Altoona. He was born April 26, 1935 in Port Matilda, a son to Horace Cowfer Sr. and Alice (Crain) Cowfer.
March 9, 1988, he married Melissa R. Richards. Surviving are sons Robert of State College, Richard (Laurie) of Warriors Mark, Roy (Nikki) Allen of Altoona; two stepchildren, Lisa Cassidy and Charles W. Smith Jr.; six step-grandchildren; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, a brother Earl Cowfer of Port Matilda and a sister Janice Cole of Port Matilda. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lambert and Johnny, and one sister, Maxine Cowfer.
Mr. Cowfer served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
He was a lifetime member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company and of the American Legion, Tyrone. He retired from Westvaco Paper Mill. He was a hunter, fisherman and loved Tyrone sports, wrestling and football.
He was dedicated to his family. There will be a private viewing and funeral service at the convenience of the family. Pastor Grove will officiate.
