Howard Glenn Baumgardner, Sr, 78, of Macomb passed away at 4:50 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2018 at Prairie City Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born on April 8, 1940 in Burnside, Illinois to Lawrence and Aileen Preston Baumgardner. He married Roberta Brown on June 18, 1961.

She survives. Also surviving are two children, Stacy Jo “Pickle” (Rod) Wilson of Table Grove, Angela Sue “Iris” (Gregg) Smock of Bethalto; seven grandchildren, Trent (Alicia Livdahl) Wilson, Kelsey (Brad) Baxter, Kirsta (Eric) Anderson, Gabrielle (Chris) Barnes, Samantha Smock, Reghan Smock and Elijah Smock; six great-grandchildren, Kailey Baxter, Avilyn Baxter, Dawson Baxter, Haidyn Baxter, Allias Wilson and Emery Anderson ; his brother, Larry R. (Carole) Baumgardner of Spring Branch, Texas; his sisters, Joyce Baumgardner of Macomb, Elsie (Ken) Sanders of San Antonio, Texas and Carolyn (Steve) Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; brother-in-law, Roger Brown of Macomb; sisters-in-law, Marcia Henry of Pekin, Janet Yoder of Brunswick, Georgia, Eileen (Amil) Gray of Rancho Cordova, California and Ann Brown of Elizabethtown, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Howard Glenn, Jr “Duck” Baumgardner; his in-laws, Raymond and Leila Brown and brother-in-law, Dan Brown.

Howard attended schools in Blandinsville, Industry, Bushnell-Prairie City and Macomb. He graduated from Western High School in 1958. He was active in sports and agriculture.

He was an avid open wheel racer and a fierce competitor. He raised White Park and Limousin cattle for many years, having names for most of them. He also had a deep love for his dobermans.

Howard and Frank Jobe established the first muffler shop in Macomb in 1972. He later partnered the same business with Jim Taylor. Howard’s main expertise was in automotive sales and mechanics.

He was employed by Creasey Chevrolet, Brown Motors Service, Royal Pontiac, and Mounce/Woodrum Chevrolet. He was also a clothing salesman at Skiles-Welper in Macomb. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Macomb and attended several Baptist churches in Macomb and Brookfield, Missouri.

He was a strong believer, faithful and honest. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Reverend Jon Keck officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019.

Burial will be in Camp Creek Cemetery south of Macomb. Memorials may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association or Loaves and Fishes.
