He was born in Chicago in 1917, a first-generation American. He grew up in Chicago during the Great Depression and married Roseann Morelli in 1942.

She died in 2016; he is survived by daughters Gayle (Tom) Carper and Jan (John) Greenwood of Macomb; son Richard of Colorado, grandson Alex Tronvig, of Macomb; and great-granddaughter Olivia. He was a World War II Army veteran and began a 40-year career as an interior designer in 1944 at John M Smyth, Chicago. After retirement, he served as a docent in the Robert McCormick mansion at Cantigny Park, Winfield, Illinois.

He was a lifelong amateur painter and, in the 1930’s, played drums in a dance hall band. He and Roseann moved to Macomb in 2002, were members of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Macomb Country Club. Irv was delighted by his life in Macomb; he enjoyed attending veterans’ events, parades, art shows, outdoor concerts and dining at local restaurants.

Another favorite activity was driving around Macomb looking at all the different styles of houses and historic buildings. Most of all, he loved the people of Macomb, who laughed at his jokes, treated him with respect and kindness, and helped him often. During his 100th year, two of his paintings were included in a community art exhibit.

He was officially recognized on his birthday by Macomb Mayor Mike Inman and State Representative Norrine Hammond, along with his family and friends at Wesley Village and the community. A Celebration of Life is planned for Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, 201 W. Carroll Street, Macomb.
