Lafary, 90, of Prairie City, IL passed away at 9:15 AM Thursday January 31, 2019 at his residence. He was born on November 28, 1928 in Fulton County to Everett and Laura (Cadwalader) Lafary. He married Mary Evelyn Thrasher on March 26, 1950 on the Thrasher family farm in rural Good Hope.

She preceded him in death on November 7, 2018. Surviving are 4 children, Gary (Elieen) Lafary of Bushnell, IL; Randy (Tina Lantz) Lafary of Prairie City, IL; Mike (Nancy) Lafary of Prairie City, IL; Sandra McVey of Abingdon, IL; ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, one brother, Harris Lafary of Bushnell, IL and several nieces and nephews. Harley absolutely loved racing and was known for building his own race cars from the ground up.

He raced on many of the race tracks throughout the Midwest. He ran his last race in 2017 at the age of 88, and won. Harley passed his knowledge and love of racing on to his entire family.

He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Vintage Race Car Association and the Land Improvement Contractor Association (LICA). Harley was also a farmer and enjoyed running the Lafary family farm with his family for many years. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday February 5, 2019 at the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Dean Reverts will officiate. Memorial contributions can be made to the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
