Obituary for Howard Marshall Davis Howard Marshall Davis was born on January 12, 1934, in Jackson County, Arkansas, to James Curtis Davis and Volina Marshall Davis. He departed for his heavenly home on November 29, 2018, from his much-loved home on Four Mile Hill near Searcy, Arkansas. He grew up in White County near Russell during the Depression, working with his family in the cotton fields and strawberry patches.
He enjoyed roaming through the woods and hunting with his brother, Wayne. He survived the tornadoes that tore through White County in 1952, when he was carried almost a mile from his home by the storm winds. He suffered a head injury and a severely fractured leg.
He joined the Army in 1956 and was stationed near Washington, DC, as a radar operator with the 71st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, Battery B. He began working for Kroger in Little Rock, where he met Kathleen Huckeby in a carpool to worship. They married in Bald Knob in 1965. They bought their home on Four Mile Hill in 1966.
They started their family in 1968, raising three children in a home filled with love and making many wonderful memories. Howard worked for Kroger for 45 years, where customers and co-workers knew him for his friendly smile, cheerful greetings, and the little black Falcon he drove to work every day. He greatly enjoyed his retirement beginning in 1999.
He spent long hours outside in his yard and in the woods, where he loved to watch the birds, squirrels, and deer. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he followed the Razorbacks faithfully in all sports. He enjoyed solving the Rubik’s cube every day, working Sudoku puzzles, playing dominoes, and above all else, reading his Bible daily.
He read through the entire Bible every year and strove to never miss a church service. He was a member of the College Church of Christ for almost 50 years. He was happiest when he was with his family.
He was a precious, humble, selfless husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, uncle, father-in-law, and son-in-law. He was a gentle, quiet man who worked hard, never complained, and lived for his family and the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: James Davis, Curtis Davis, Lawson Davis, and Wayne Davis, and three sisters: Dorotha Davis Mingo, Viola Davis Milligan, and Mary Davis.
Left to treasure his love and memories in their hearts are his wife of over 53 years, Kathleen; his children, Tena Brooks, Sarah (Mark) Petrus, and Paul (Rebecca) Davis; his grandchildren, Sarah Brooks Bartilson, Ashley Brooks, Roman Davis, and Noah Petrus; his great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, and Tucker; one brother, Chester Davis; two sisters: Betty (Marshall) Stites and Lee Pierce; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
