A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at Saint Luke’s Church in Boardman, celebrated by Rev. Zachary Coulter for Howard Wayne “Red” Williams, 82, who passed away early Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Wayne was born March 29, 1936, in Boardman, a son of Cecil and Velma Horger Williams.

A life-time resident of the area, he graduated from Boardman High School in 1954 worked as a junior volunteer firefighter in Boardman. He was attending Youngstown State University, when he was drafted to the Army. He served in Germany, and after being honorably discharged, he joined the Boardman Fire Department as a firefighter.

Wayne worked at Bales-Davis Construction, and retired at age 60 from Commercial Shearing. “Red” enjoyed the outdoors and loved being in his garden. An Eagle Scout, he was a counselor at Camp Fitch.

He belonged to the local American Legion and liked to travel and cook, especially for Sunday dinners with the family. A life-time member of St. Luke’s Church, “Red” loved life, his family and his dogs. Wayne is survived by his wife, the former Eileen V. Koneski, whom he married June 11, 1962 at St. Charles Church; his daughters Susan L. (David) Spencer of Newark, OH, Linda M. (Conrad) Lockiec of Boardman, Karen S. (Roy) Young of Eden Utah and Cheryl Balog of Campbell; sister Mary Eleanor Stephan of IN; eight grandchildren, Kristy (Jared) Farkas, Kenneth Kelso, Megan Howell, Annie Howell, Wayne Young, Andrew Young, Jennifer Balog and David (Kelly) Balog; and three great-granddaughters and his cherished dogs.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister M. Louise Manley and brother Robert A. Williams. Friends and family may call from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, January 6 at Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman, and from 9:00 to 9:50 am on Monday at the church. Material donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, OH 44512.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Army Honor Guard.
