Prayers will be 9:15 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday February 26, 2019 at Holy Family Church celebrated by Rev. Msgr. William J. Connell, for Robert F. Johnston, 87, who passed away peacefully at the Hospice House on Friday Morning.

Bob was born on November 11, 1931 in Youngstown, son of James Patrick and Rose Heslen Johnston, he was lifelong area resident. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea with the 7th Cavalry Regt. , he was awarded the Combat infantry Badge; Republic of Korea Presidential medal; Korean service medal with four Bronze stars; United Nations service medal, Good Conduct medal and the Purple Heart, he was honorably discharged in September 1951.

He attended Erie Technical School in Erie, Pa. , and then worked for 25 Years at the Youngstown Vindicator. Bob Married the love of his life Sandra D’Angelo on February 12, 1955, sadly she passed away September 9, 2007.

He and his wife were owners of Irish Bob’s Pub for many years, they were members of Holy Family Church and the A.O.H. division 6. , where he was honored in 1989 as Irish Man of the year. He was President of Local 112 of International Stereotypes and Electrotypes Union.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory his sister Rose Gancarcik of Hubbard, sisters-in- law JoAnn Johnston and Sarah Hilbert; Mary (James) Pezzano. Bob leaves several nieces and nephews, Marcella Dionisio; Ken (Carol) Johnston; James Johnston; David (Mary) Johnston and Mariann (Bill) Patrick. Frank (Arlene) Hilbert; Karen Bergmann; Michael (Sandy) Hilbert; Marylou (Joseph) Castillo; Steve (Jody) Hilbert.

He also has several great nieces and great nephews that will miss him terribly. Besides his parents and his wife Bob was preceded in death by his brothers James (Gertrude) Johnston and Paul Johnston and his niece Kathy Miles. Bob’s family wishes to thank the staff and doctors at the Hospice House for the wonderful care and love shown to him, his family has asked that any material tributes be given to the Hospice House 9803 Sharrott Rd.
