Obituary Service Details Hugo Alfredo Velazquez of Piscataway, NJ, formerly of Jersey City entered eternal life on Monday, May 15th, 2017. He was born on February 17, 1949 in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico to Julio and Rosa Velazquez (Cabret). Hugo and his family relocated to New Jersey in 1955.

He was enrolled in Public School in Jersey City speaking only Spanish in an all English speaking classes before E.S.L. classes language classes were offered. Not only did he master the English language, but also exceeded in academics. He continued his education through and graduated from Ferris High School.

Hugo continued his undergraduate studies at New Jersey City University. Before continuing his higher education, Hugo answered his patriotic duty and enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon completing his service, he returned to Jersey City and became involved in the Democratic Party and Political Affairs in Jersey City.

Hugo specialized and worked in professional Drywall construction for Local 1974 of New York City for 20 years. He was appointed to several Advisory Boards to include the Department of Hispanic Affairs, Hispanic Business Advisory Board, Public Development Corporation, Housing Preservation & Development Office. Hugo was strongly involved in the creation of a new Equal Employment Opportunity Office, expanding the police department bilingual receptionist Program, and creation of the position of language services coordinator all within the city.

He spear-headed the Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Program through the Community Awareness Series. His passionate advocacy for the community culminated in Hugo being awarded the prestigious Key to the City of Jersey City, NJ. Hugo was a dedicated family man.

He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Julio and Rosa Velazquez, his brothers Julio, Jose Velazquez, Antonio Fontanez, his sister Lydia Asia, and son Jemahl Fulton. Hugo leaves to mourn the Love of his Life Rogenia Velazquez, his daughter Elise (Nee Velazquez) Newton (Sharif), His Son Daniel Velazquez, his grandchildren, Tyquan, Jason, Cheyenn, Jordan, Cameron, Kennedi & Dylan, and twins on the way, a host of Nieces, Nephews, Brothers-in-law, Sisters-in-law and special cousins. Viewing on Monday, 7:00 9:00 PM at Introcaso-Angelo Funeral Home, 141 Brunswick St, Jersey City, NJ.

Funeral on Tuesday at Abundant Life Family Worship Church, 259 George Street, New Brunswick, NJ. Viewing at 10:00 AM; Service at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
