Hugo “Ed” Hennelly, 82, died January 15, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family after his inspiring battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1936, in Butte, to Tom and Myrtle Hennelly. Ed attended school in Butte and graduated from Butte High.

Following graduation, he worked in the mines for the Anaconda Co. On June 2, 1957, he married Arlene and they were happily married for 61 years. Ed and Arlene stayed in Butte where they raised their family and made a living. Ed worked for Montana Power for 35 years prior to his retirement.

After retiring, Ed continued to work and drove his “Kids” in the bus for AWARE, a job he loved dearly. Ed was one of the original builders of the Butana Speedway. He loved racing stock cars as car # 27.

Ed also loved NASCAR and had the pleasure of attending multiple races in person. His favorite racer was Dale Earnhardt Sr #3. Many of these NASCAR trips were to Nevada, where Ed also enjoyed spending the kids’ inheritance.

Ed enjoyed camping, going to garage sales, and walking. At the garage sales he would purchase every piece of AVON for his beloved wife. Over the years Ed had also enjoyed teaching his family the fine art of cutting and hauling fire wood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Calhoun and Myrtle (Cookie) Ronamose, his children, Tina Skocilich, Terri White, and Joe Hennelly, and grandchildren, Theo and Jennifer Davis. Surviving in addition to his wife, Arlene, are his siblings, Jeri (Leroy) Gerry, James Sheridan, Richard Sheridan, all of Butte, and Ernie Sheridan of Washington. Children: Ed “Topper” (Steph) Hennelly and Tona Baxter.

Grandchildren: Kelly (James) Skocilich, Keri Skocilich, Kayla Hennelly, Brandon Hennelly, Cory (Maisa) Hennelly, Josh (Ambrosia) White, Jack “J.D.” (Megan) White, Angel (Ted) White, Nathan Kuntz, Michelle (Carl) Haumberger, Mike (Natasha) McCullar, Jason and Robert Davis. 26 great- grandchildren and multiple other friends and family. The family would like to offer a special thank you Dr Hueftle, Terri Hocking, Stacy Foley, Ana Shaw, and the entire Highlands Hospice staff for their hard work, kindness, and support through this difficult journey.
