Her body was transported to U.S and arrived in Salt Lake City on Friday 26th of October since it was her desire to be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Tali Sitani Lomu at West Jordan City Cemetery on Monday 29th of October, 2018. Ionita was born in June 3rd 1948 in Leimatu’a Vava’u and united in marriage to Tali Sitani Lomu in June 1966.
They were blessed with four children and eight grand-children, three of whom are currently in medical school. Her husband Tali preceded her in death in July 15, 2015. Ionita is well-remembered for her Christian vibrant faith and her generous spirit.
She trusted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and she became a devoted member and a lay preacher of the To ‘A e ‘Ofa United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City. Her families and friends remember her generosity and her willingness to meet others’ unmet needs whether it had to do with offering food, money, or hosting families in her home. Her faith is summed up by her three last words to her grand-kids while she was experiencing that heart attack which took hold of her life on Friday 12th of October.
In the midst of her excruciating pain, she repeatedly kept on saying, “Malo Sisu ho’o ‘ofa (Thank you Jesus for your love). Then she managed to express her love to her grandkids, “Oku ou ‘ofa atu kiate kimoutolu”(I love you all). Then she finally bade them farewell by expressing her living hope in an eternal reunion in heaven, “Tau toki fetaulaki pee ki hee”.
(We’ll meet there later–heaven! ) Her favorite Scripture is Psalm 27:4 “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple,” and her favorite hymn “Nearer my God to Thee”. She is survived by seven of her brothers–Itiliami, Isileli, Siosaia, Sione Na’a, Kanititeiti, Sione Ma’afu, and Okusi–and also by five of her sisters, Alilia, Ane, Manuesina,Toakase, and Lingisiva.
She will be forever treasured in the hearts of her loved ones especially her four children–Taniitini, Neomai, Akanesi, and Naitasiri and her eight grandchildren –Sifa, Ailine, Vulase, Akanesi, Taniela, Katalina, Tevita, and Alexander Tali Jr. Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m and followed by a memorial service conducted by Ionita’s pastor Rev. ‘Atamani Longolongofolau from 1 p.m. to 2. 30 p.m. on Monday 29th of October at Lifeline Community Church, 4431 W.
