J Lewis Quinn Jr. of Norwell died peacefully at home May 24, 2018 at the age of 80. He was surrounded by family. Son of Rosemarie A. Quinn, age 103, and James L. Quinn predeceased in 1996.

Lewis leaves behind his wife of 45 years Helene T. Quinn and 6 children; Maureen Quinn Richmond, Janice Quinn, Michele Quinn, Heidi Quinn Miller (D. Sean Miller), Jeremy J. Quinn (Michele Jaquis) and Nathaniel J.L. Quinn, as well as 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and his mother Rosemarie. Born in Lynn, he attended Lynn English High School and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Salem State University.

Lewis taught business courses at Waterford High School in CT and Braintree High School in MA before taking on a role in the growing technology field with positions at Digital and Lexidata. He then became a mainframe systems analyst at General Electric in Lynn, where he worked for most of his career. Lewis loved the outdoors and the happiest times in his life were when he was sailing, camping, hiking, biking and traveling.

He raced a sailboat out of Marblehead up until it was sold to help pay for an epic honeymoon cross-country road trip that included his four girls. His sharp intelligence was expressed in his love for playing complex practical jokes. He once sprung a surprise birthday trip to France on his wife Helene and their kids.

Family was very important to him and he was very involved in all his children and grandchildren’s lives. The grandchildren knew him as Pup. One of the most amazing attributes that Lewis had was his gift of giving directions.

If a destination was mentioned in his presence, he would recite detailed directions to that location regardless of whether you needed them or not. If he was in the car, he would always determine the route and no one could argue – all he had to do was point and we had no choice but to go in that direction. He had the location of every Dunkin Donuts in New England memorized, possibly the entire east coast.

Lewis’ unique sense of humor, outgoing personality, and extensive knowledge of local curiosities endeared him to many. He cast a long shadow in the Quinn family and leaves behind many who love and miss him dearly. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018 from 8 -9:30 am in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St (off Rt 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center followed by a Mass celebrated at Resurrection Church in Hingham MA, at 10am, followed by interment at Stetson Meadows Cemetery in Norwell.
