J. Stanley Jones of Otterbein, Cridersville formerly of Wapakoneta, OH passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Lima Memorial Health Systems at 2:08 p.m. surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jennings Twp, Van Wert County on July 23, 1926, to William G. and Cora (Rupert) Jones.

On August 8, 1948, he married Mildred L. (Arnett) Jones and she survives. He is also survived by two children; Darrell S. (Cynthia) Jones Russell’s Point, OH and Elaine M. (Ronald) Mertz Cridersville, OH, daughter-in-law, Robin L. Jones Wapakoneta, Oh, sister, Esther Green Coldwater, OH. He is survived by 9 grandchildren: Lori (Tim) Bryner, Stephanie (Corey) Craig, Heather Smead, Ryan (Kat)Jones, Kimberly Mertz, Rebecca (Cody) Peterson, Candy (Ben) Seela, Kayla (Rich) Teeters, Kevin M. Jones and 15 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by one son, Kevin J. Jones, 5 brothers John G, Ollen, Homer, Mike and Joseph Jones, 2 sisters Lucille Rabe and Ruth Lowman. Stan was a member of the class of 1945 of St. Mary’s Memorial High school. He retired from Airfoil Textron after 35 years of service as a Tool and Die Inspector in Quality Control.

He assisted in the assembly of the first successful Nuclear Reactor. He was a man of many talents with an innovative mind and always thinking of a project to make things better and easier. He was always thinking, planning and busy with his hands.

He loved growing up on the farm and enjoyed looking at old farm equipment and classic cars, spotting and identifying an old car a half mile away, especially a 1939 Ford Coupe. Stan was an active member of Harvest Baptist Church of Wapakoneta and served as head usher for many years, worked with the mission committee on many projects and assisted with baptisms for many years. In his former church he had held the offices of Deacon and Elder.

God gave him a heart for helping others in any way that he could especially his family and others whom he saw had a need. Active in community service, he served with the United Way of Greater Lima, past Manager of the Excello Credit Union, past Director and Board Member of the Eastern Auglaize County chapter of The Red Cross and he helped in setting up a disaster program. He and his wife Co-directed Breakfast with Santa for several years for the American Red Cross.

He was a charter board member of the Miracle Meal Inc., where he also help organize, and serve the annual Miracle Meal. Contributions may be given in his memory to Harvest Baptist Missions Committee or Miracle Meal Inc He will be greatly missed by his wife and family but take great comfort in knowing that he is home with the Lord and someday we will see him again and the family chain will be linked together.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thurs. Jan. 24, 2019, at the Harvest Baptist Church, Wapakoneta, Pastor Gary Bragg officiating.

Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Wed. at the Eley Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Rt.
