Obituary for Jack F. Demetruk Jack F. Demetruk April 20, 1933 – September 4, 2018 Jack F. Demetruk, 85, of Stephenville died Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in Stephenville Memorial services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, September 8th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Rosary services will begin at 6:00 PM Friday at Stephenville Funeral Home, followed by visitation which will begin at 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. Jack was born on April 20, 1933 in Fort Worth to the late Jack and Emma Kosarek Demetruk.
He graduated from Northside High School, received his Bachelor’s degree from Texas Wesleyan, his Master’s degree from North Texas and graduated from SMUs Southwestern Graduate School of Banking. He spent most of his life in banking, serving as Senior Vice President and Cashier of the First National Bank of Ft Worth and President of First United Banking Services. Jack served in the U. S. Army from 1955 until 1957.
He was a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Stephenville, a member of Ducks Unlimited, NRA, Wild Turkey Federation, and many other business and civic organizations. He spent most of his life in Fort Worth, and the past 20 years in Stephenville. Jack is survived by his wife, Louise; sons, Michael Jay and wife Jan Demetruk of Burleson, and Patrick Scott and wife Katharine Demetruk of Stephenville; daughter, Linda Louise Demetruk of Weatherford; grandchildren, Matthew Demetruk of Burleson, Brett and wife Whitney Demetruk of Stephenville, Melanie and husband Scott Jones of Burleson, and Jackie and husband Sterling Foster of Clarksville, TN; great grandchildren, Ryan Jones and Cillian Demetruk; nephew, Jim and wife Sherry Davidson, and their son Patrick; and niece, Cindy and husband Cory Candahl, and their children, Carolyn and Courtney.
Jack enjoyed a lifetime of experiences in the outdoors, hunting and fishing all over the United States. He hunted and fished along the Potomac River and wandered the wooded hills of the Shenandoah Valley. He spent many days in the Ozark Mountains fishing at Bull Shoals Lake, Lake Norfolk, and he especially enjoyed chasing trophy brown trout in the White River.
He hunted geese and pheasants on the prairie land of Kansas and took several big white-tail bucks in the badlands of South Dakota. He hunted mule deer in the Colorado Rockies, chased elk in New Mexico, and took a trophy bighorn sheep in Wyoming (waiting the last hour of the last day of the season to make his shot on a once-in-a-lifetime permit). He fished the Gulf of Mexico for king fish and hunted in the hills of Arizona for cougar.
His greatest adventures were the trips he made to Alaska. He caught big king salmon on the Kenai River, and hunted Dahl’s sheep above the Arctic circle. On his high-country trips, he took caribou, black bear, and an arctic wolf.
He caught steelhead in the Snake River in Washington state and enjoyed trips fishing in Mexico. Of course, his most frequent forays were all over the state of Texas. In his adventures, he went from Dumas to Corpus Christi, from Ore City to Marfa, from Crawford to Sonora, and all points in between.
He fished Lake O’ the Pines, Lake Sam Rayburn, Cedar Creek, Lake Palo Pinto, Hubbard Creek, Possum Kingdom Lake, Eagle Mountain Lake, Benbrook Lake, Lake Whitney, the Brazos River, and the Trinity River. He hunted doves in Hamilton, fished for sand bass on Denton Creek, hunted ducks in Grandview, fished for black bass from a float tube in small lakes near Weatherford, he hunted pronghorn antelope in west Texas, he caught striped bass and hybrids at Squaw Creek reservoir, he hunted white tail deer in the hill country, he hunted pheasants in the corn country of the panhandle, and especially loved to hunt turkeys in central Texas. He was successful in taking a Pronghorn Antelope that qualified for a record in the Pope and Young Club, which as it turned out, was his first and only kill with a bow.
Of course, he loved to spend time in the outdoors but what made it special to him was hunting and fishing with his many friends over the years and especially with his family. Louise, Mike, Pat, and Linda accompanied him on most of his adventures and he loved nothing more than teaching his kids about hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He would grumble when one of the kids out-did him on a hunt or a fishing trip but he was always very proud of them just the same.
He loved the pictures of his trips and they were always focused on his kids or on Louise. He was so excited when the four grand-kids came along because he knew he would have a whole new set of adventures to experience as Matthew, Brett, Melanie, and Jackie followed him on outdoor trips.
