Jack R. Rising, of Indiana, PA died July 2, 2018 at St. Andrews Village where he had resided since April 2017. He was born on January 5, 1925 to Archie M. and Etta M. (Sharp) Rising. He served for 22 years on the REA Board of Directors, holding the office of secretary and treasurer for portions of that time.

For many years, he sold auto parts, then Buicks for R. H. Fleming Buick before launching his own auto parts store, Cherry Avenue Auto Parts. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the European Theater of Operations in the Headquarters Company of the 359th Anti-Tank Regiment in the 90th Infantry Division under General George Patton. Jack landed on Normandy on D-Day and also fought in the Battle of Bastogne, receiving the Presidential Unit Citation, the Purple Heart, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 bronze stars.

He was honorably discharged in November 1945. In August of 1946, he married Evelyn M. Roof and they shared nearly 59 years of marriage until her death in May 2005. Jack is survived by his two sons Dr. Donald M. (Lynn) of Mount Joy, PA and Dr. David J. (Denise) of Lakewood, CO; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister Lois Kunkle (Richard), Export, PA; sisters-in-law Dahlia Rising and Isabel Roof; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Delone and Willard. He was an active member of the Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church and had served as an Elder, Clerk of Session, Deacon and Trustee over the years.

He had also been active in the community, serving on the Indiana County Fair Association, the board of the Indiana County YMCA and as an advisor for the Indiana County Vo-Tech School and the Lenape Vo-Tech School, Ford City. He was a member of United Commercial Travelers, Indiana Council #598 and had served as the state secretary. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on August 4, 2018 at 11 AM at the Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church, 182 South Ridge Road, Shelocta, PA.

The family will receive visitors from 10 AM to the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church.
