Jackie W. (Buddy) Bates Sr. Sylacauga, AL – Funeral service for Jackie W. (Buddy) Bates Sr., 83, will be Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Radney-Smith Chapel with Rev. Charles Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL.

Mr. Bates passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his son, TSgt Jackie W. Bates, Jr.; mother, Belle Robinson; and his 3 sisters. Mr. Bates served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.

He later worked as a security guard at Alabama Power, where he had retired from. Mr. Bates was a member of Mignon Baptist Church in Sylacauga, AL. He was a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather, and will be truly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jettie Lou Dale Bates; two brothers, Malcolm “Jim” (Kaylon) Bates and Paul Bates; two sons, Malcolm (Denise) Bates and Scott Bates; two daughters, Celena (Scott) Martin and Cosundra (Bill) Turner; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at www.
