Jack Milton Smith, 72, passed away on December 22, 2018 at his home in Wasilla, Alaska. A memorial service will be held at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Service dates pending.

Jack was born on January 20, 1946 in Atascadero, California to James and Mildred Smith. After high school, Jack went on to LA Technical College and received an Associates Degree. He enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1968 to 1990.

Jack served with distinction in Vietnam and received numerous commendations including a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Jack married Ismenia G Smith and they had two sons James J Smith and Jack A Smith. They moved to Alaska in 1982.

After Jack retired from the Army in 1990, he worked for FedEx until 2008. The family shared, “Jack was a beloved husband and father, lived a good life with honor and dignity. He will be missed by all who knew him” Jack is survived by his wife, Ismenia Smith; sons, James and Jack Smith; brother, Richard Smith; sister-in-law, Patricia Smith, cousin Glenda Vicory and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Mildred Smith; sister, Mardeese Speak and brother-in-law, William Speak. In lieu of flowers , memorial donations can be made in Jack’s memory to any of the following charitable organizations; Purple Heart Foundation; Disabled American Veterans(DAV); Salvation Army Alaska; American Red Cross; and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
